Memorial Day Ceremony May 26, 2008 - VFW Salute at all cemeteries. Speaker and band along with VFW at Woodlawn Cemetery at 10:00am.
OddRods Friday Night Park'n June-October - by Oelwein OddRods Club. Car enthusiasts welcome to downtown Oelwein to park and enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for great rides. Held on the third Friday each month.
Golf Tournament Friday, June 20, 2008 - The Annual OCAD Golf Tournament at Edgewater Golf Course, 1432 Q Avenue. The 4-person Best Shot Tournament starts at 1:00pm. Hole-in-One prize plus door prizes on each hole. Proceeds generously support local activities.
Street Dance June 28 - 7pm-midnight - Community Celebration downtown in the South Parking Lot, featuring the band Holiday Road. Sponsored by Hintz-Ziegler Miller Insurance, Vogel Insurance, and City Laundering Co.
Celebration Oelwein July 4, 2008 - An annual old fashioned Fourth of July celebration includes a large downtown parade at 10:30am, entertainment, games, food and boating all afternoon at City Park; and a fireworks display at dusk. Planes, Trains & Automobiles July 19, 2008. Hot Air Balloon Rides at Oelwein Airport, Odd Rods Car Club Rally. Railroad Museum events all weekend with displays of railroad cars, kids mini-train rides, memorabilia vendors, food stands, tower tours and handcar rides. Quilt Show August 16-17, 2008 - The 8th Annual Open Quilt Show will be held at the Community Plaza by Creative Cut-ups. Saturday 9-5; Sunday 10-4. Quilt Raffle, Merchant Mall, Quilter's Challenge, Vintage Sewing Machines. Italian American Heritage Celebration August 16, 2008. Events begin at Red Gate Park on West Charles Street from 10am to 4pm with Bocce ball, Italian food, music and games. Mass will be celebrated in a ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery at 4:00pm. An Italian dinner follows at Luigi's Restaurant, 1020 S. Frederick, with Social Hour at 6pm and Banquet at 7pm. Door prizes and dance with Tuxedo Junction band. Everyone is welcome.

Olde Tyme Christmas December 5, 2008 - Santa arrives in a horse-drawn sleigh. Activities include Grinch contest, pictures with Santa, strolling carolers and other musical entertainment, Christmas tree display and contest, sleigh rides, live windows, the famous fruitcake toss, a craft show at the Plaza, and stores open late for holiday shoppers.
Home Tour and Garden Walk Features Oelwein's many outstanding homes and flower and herb gardens. Date to be announced.

Oelwein City Park and Campground. City Park offers boating, fishing, trails, playground equipment, and picnic area. Modern site (electricity, water and AC) is $12 per day or $70 per week. July 6 - The annual July Music Fest featuring the popular Tuxedo Junction Band and Deb Kunkle at the parlor piano for a sing-a-long.
August 16-17 - Heritage Weekend with large Flea Market and Museum Tours.
The Oelwein Public Library offers public internet computers, a genealogy section with microfilm reader printer, a children's room, a reading room with current and archived newspapers and magazines, reference service, and over 45,000 books and materials. Click for library website.
