Oelwein has invested
$30,000,000+ while collectively promoting the community and its resources as we strive to attract visitors, jobs and industry. Industrial buildings are available for the right business to move into. The opening of the Regional Academy for Math and Science (RAMS) has brought new opportunities for college classes in Oelwein. Continue to watch for improvements in downtown, in our housing, and new businesses.

Local Housing Trust Fund...
Better, more affordable housing choices, more attractive neighborhoods, and a stronger sense of community are the benefits of participating in the Fayette County Local Housing Trust Fund. The Trust Fund will assist individuals, community organizations, non-profit and for-profit developers in rehabilitation, repair and creation of projects that improve the condition of, or contribute to the development of both rental and owner occupied affordable housing in Oelwein and Fayette County. Eligible projects include repairs of existing housing, including, but not limited to: plumbing, electrical, roofing, structural, energy efficiency, lead paint issues and handicap accessibility for homes built prior to 1980. Applications can be obtained by contacting the Fayette County Economic Development Office at 1-800-477-5073. Are you interested in a 6-8 foot tall landscape tree to plant at your home for very little cost?
The Iowa DNR Forestry Bureau is partnering with Alliant Energy and Fayette County Conservation Board offering trees for Alliant Energy customers (IA Residents only) to plant on their property for $25/tree. Not a Fayette County resident? As long as you are an Alliant customer, you may still take advantage of this program called "Operation ReLeaf". Up to 2 trees are allowed per household and interested persons should order ahead of time by contacting Fayette County Consrvation Board at (563)422-4146 or at www.alliantenergy.com/releaf. Those reserving tree(s) should pick up their order Saturday, October 16th between 9-11am at the Wildwood Nature Center located near Fayette. There are 8 species and a total of 300 trees available.
